Dance Pole: Getting on with Beginner's Basics
Beginning pole dancers should not try any gravity defying moves at first. It's best to start out slow and learn a few simple tricks, like the wrap-around.
For the wrap-around, grab the dance pole at head height, using your strong hand, keeping your arm straight. Let your weight hang away from the pole. Then, step around, keeping your outside leg straight. Pivot on your inside foot at the same time, allowing your knee to bend slightly as you make your turn. Hook around the pole with your leg, placing your outside foot down, and then transfer weight to the back foot, getting a good grip right behind the knee. Arch your body, and allow yourself to spin.
